OREANDA-NEWS. Sigal P. Mandelker, who serves as Under Secretary of the US Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence and the Deputy Secretary of the US Treasury, will leave her post.

It was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources in the Treasury. The Secretary of the Treasury Stephen Mnuchin told journalists that Mandelker would go to work in a private company.

Mandelker oversaw terrorism and financial intelligence since the summer of 2017. One of the structures of the agency is responsible for the implementation of the US sanctions regime against different countries and its coordination with other states. When Mandelker oversaw this sphere, the United States tightened economic pressure on Russia, Iran and other countries. In August 2017, US. President Donald Trump signed the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, which limits the cooperation of companies around the world with Russia, in particular in the defense sphere and financial sectors.

Erich Ferrari, the Federal Regulation Attorney in Washington, said that Mandelker was one of the key figures in the development of American sanctions policy. According to him, the agency showed a desire that European countries apply sanctions against Russia in a tougher way.

In March, Bloomberg reported about the problems in Mandelker’s agency and a decline in morale among employees of the body. They said that one of the reasons of it was poor leadership of the Under Secretary who was disorganized, quick-tempered and indecisive and provoked internal conflicts.
