OREANDA-NEWS. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, speaking at the opening of the 56th Munich Security Conference, claimed that Russia without regard to international law annexed the Crimea. According to him, Moscow “has made military force and the violent shifting of borders on the European continent the means of politics once again”. The result of this is uncertainty and unpredictability, confrontation and loss of confidence, Steinmeier stressed.

“China… accepts international law only selectively where it does not run counter to its own interests,” he said. The politician mentioned that Beijing’s actions in the South China Sea are troubling its neighbors in the region, and its policy regarding Uighurs living in the country is worrying everyone.

The German President also criticized the United States. “…Our closest ally, the United States of America, under the present administration itself, rejects the idea of an international community,” he declared. Steinmeier expressed concern that American President Trump’s slogan “Make America great again” is being implemented at the expense of US partners and neighbors.
