OREANDA-NEWS. Swedish parliamentarians called for new sanctions against Russia in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

A document on this was drawn up by deputies of the Centre Party, Kerstin Lundgren and Magnus Ek. The authors of the initiative declare that after the restoration of the powers of the Russian delegation, Moscow ignores the decisions taken by the Council of Europe and other international institutions. At the same time, the deputies do not specify what restrictions they propose to impose.

In 2014, due to events in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea, the Russian delegation to PACE was deprived of the right to vote, participate in observation missions and be a member of the organization’s governing bodies. In June 2019, the PACE session’s participants approved a resolution that confirmed the full authority of the Russian delegation. In January 2020, it was ratified.
