OREANDA-NEWS. Tajikistan stated that it's capacity to accept refugees from Afghanistan is very limited, so it is not able to accept a large number of asylum seekers from this country. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan Ramazon Rasulzoda in an interview with the state agency «Khovar» on Thursday, September 2, complained about the lack of international support in the reception of refugees from Afghanistan.

According to the minister, his country has allocated a territory for receiving refugees, but the international community does not provide any practical support to Tajikistan. Rahimzoda also said that he met with a representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and informed him that the government in Dushanbe «peacefully returned to their homeland» 5,000 Afghan soldiers who fled to Tajikistan after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan.

Immediately after the victory of the «Taliban», Tajikistan expressed it's readiness to accept up to 100 thousand Afghan refugees, but soon after said that it would not be able to do this because of the coronavirus pandemic and «the threat of terrorist penetration into other countries».

During his visit to Dushanbe on August 30, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas promised the neighboring countries of Afghanistan 500 million euros to help them cope with the reception of Afghan refugees, and Tajikistan, among other things, additional assistance in the field of economic development.
