OREANDA-NEWS  The Kremlin commented on the statements of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, about the possibility of introducing new sanctions against Russia.

Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that the European Union supports Alexei Navalny, who is the founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation.

“It is unclear what they support him in,” Dmitry Peskov comments on this situation.

Peskov notes that the negotiations of Josep Borrel in Moscow were more meaningful than just one topic, which is related to the convicted Alexei Navalny.

Dmitry Peskov also recalled Moscow's interest in dialogue with the European Union, despite the existence of problematic issues.

Borrell was in Russia on an official visit from 4 to 6 February. On February 5, he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. A few days later, the head of EU diplomacy admitted the likelihood of introducing new sanctions against Russia. He also accused the Russian Federation of unwillingness to reestablish constructive relations with Europe.

The deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Ruslan Balbek explained Borrell's words about the sanctions with an insult because of the ineffectiveness of the sanctions policy against the Russian Federation.
