OREANDA-NEWS. The United States is working to ensure that India refuses in the future to sign major contracts in the field of military-technical cooperation with Russia.

This was reported by US Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs, Clarke Cooper. He added that the anti-aircraft missile systems S-400 and the fighters Su-35 are as examples of major purchases. “Don’t put at risk future opportunities that may be impeded by significant Russian defense articles,” Cooper said during an online briefing. “It’s not everything, but something like the S-400 will be a challenge, something like the Sukhoi Su-35 will be a challenge”. The Assistant Secretary stressed that the United States is not seeking to harm India’s defense and national security. In his opinion, India can abandon Russian weapons and equipment suddenly.

Earlier, Russia agreed to speed up the implementation of a key defense contract with India. It provides for the delivery of five S-400s to Delhi, and intensifying negotiations on the supply of fighters 33 MiG-29 and Su-30MKI.
