OREANDA-NEWS. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met in person for the first time and discussed cooperation between the two countries in several areas.

The representative of the United States said that the confrontation between the two countries is obvious, but the establishment of peaceful contacts and the stabilization of relations will have a beneficial effect on the situation in the world. Blinkin named the main areas for cooperation: the fight against the CAVID-19 pandemic, global warming and ecology, nuclear weapons of Iran and North Korea, and Afghanistan.

According to the Secretary of State, Washington is committed to improving relations with Moscow, this will make the world a safer place, and " this is good for our people, for the people of Russia and for the whole world." Lavrov agreed with the position of his interlocutor and stressed the importance of long-term, honest and respectful relations.

During the two-hour conversation, the representatives of the states were able to discuss all the stated issues. Lavrov noted the need to improve working conditions for diplomatic representatives, since without this there can be no question of constructive and effective cooperation.

It should be noted that the foreign ministers of Russia and the United States are aimed at further cooperation, and a meeting of the heads of state is possible in the very near future.
