OREANDA-NEWS. US President Joseph Biden is taking a pragmatic approach to Russia. This was stated by the Secretary of State of the United States Anthony Blinken in an interview with «The Washington Post», published on Friday, April 9. The head of the White House sees the need to «hold Russia accountable for any reckless or hostile actions it takes», but is «open to cooperation in areas of mutual interest», Blinken explained.

Biden in mid-March said, that he considers Russian President Vladimir Putin a murderer. The Kremlin will pay for trying to influence the outcome of the US presidential election in 2020 in favor of Donald Trump, the head of the White House added. Moscow called the accusations of interference in the elections groundless.

Putin, shortly after the harsh words of his American counterpart, expressed a desire to discuss with Biden bilateral relations, strategic stability, regional conflicts and the problems facing humanity. In turn, the White House said, that the meeting of the two presidents will take place at an «appropriate time».
