OREANDA-NEWS. Presidents of the United States of America and France, Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump, stated the need to establish relations with Russia at a joint press conference at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit in London. The 70th anniversary NATO summit was opened on December 3. The main negotiating day will be December 4.

“…I think we will get along with them eventually. I think it's a good thing if we have great relationships or at least good relationships with Russia… and I believe someday that will happen,” Trump said to the French President. According to the American leader, the Russian people would also like to establish good relations with Washington. He also said that the United States and Russia could conclude a nuclear agreement, which at some stage will include China and other countries. He has already discussed this issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Macron noted the need for a strategic dialogue with Russia for security in Europe. He added that NATO was created 70 years ago in other historical conditions to confront the USSR. The French president stated that Western countries need to see a new historical situation. A new agenda needs to be developed, he added.

Earlier, Putin at a meeting in Sochi on the state defense order in the interests of the Navy, said that Russia has repeatedly expressed its willingness to cooperate with NATO. According to the politician, Moscow made certain steps towards the alliance and tried to propose a constructive agenda, however, after 2008, cooperation was stopped. At the same time, Russian authorities hope that the interests of common security and the peaceful future of the planet will prevail.
