OREANDA-NEWS. The presidential candidate of Belarus Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya recorded a video message, in which she calls for an end to the violence and invited mayors to become the organizers of peaceful rallies on August 15–16. The politician previously left the native country. The candidate’s headquarters informed that she was forced to do so by the state authorities.

“The situation is critical. I look with pain at what is happening in our country in recent days. For me and, I am sure, for each of us, supporters of change, human life is the most valuable matter. We need to stop violence on the streets of Belarusian cities. I urge the authorities to stop it and start a dialogue. I ask all mayors of the cities to become organizers of peaceful mass gatherings in every city and town on August 15 and 16,” Tsikhanouskaya said.

She also noted that peaceful actions of a new type appear in Belarus, for example, women with flowers line up in “chains of solidarity.” According to the politician, this shows that Belarusians are honest and open people who are against violence. “Our voices are to be heard,” she concluded.
