OREANDA-NEWS. Ukraine may impose sanctions against Nicaragua in connection with the upcoming opening of a consulate in the Republic of Crimea. This was reported by the edition Gordon.

The government of Ukraine appealed to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) with a proposal to introduce sectoral sanctions. “The project provides for the introduction of proposals on the application of tough sectoral sanctions against the Republic of Nicaragua in response to the openly illegal actions of its government against the national security interests of our state,” Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said at a meeting of the cabinet. Kiev called illegal the appointment of an honorary consul in Crimea, which in Ukraine is considered a territory occupied by Russia. According to Reznikov, the sanctions against Nicaragua will be “a clear signal… of the Ukrainian people to certain governments.”

Before their introduction, restrictions should be approved by the NSDC, the Verkhovna Rada and President Volodymyr Zelensky.
