OREANDA-NEWS. On July 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone talk with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, during which the situation in Donbass, the Normandy Four agreements, as well as the resolution on elections in the region and amendments to the Ukrainian Constitution were discussed.

“Various aspects of the settlement of the internal Ukrainian crisis were discussed in detail. The need to increase the effectiveness of negotiation efforts within the framework of the Minsk Contact Group was declared,” the message of the Kremlin administration says.

Putin and Zelensky praised the agreements on new ceasefire measures in Donbass established in Minsk. At the same time, the Russian leader criticized the resolution on elections in Donbass adopted on July 15 by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, noting that it contradicts the Minsk Agreements, which are the main basis for settlement in the region.

The Office of the President of Ukraine reported that Zelensky raised the issue of further steps to release the detainees. It is mentioned also that the politicians discussed the issue of the special status of Donbass and the need to adopt amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine.
