OREANDA-NEWS. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine declared that the water supply to Crimea will be restored only after the “de-occupation” of the peninsula.

Earlier, the Commission on International Cooperation of the Human Rights Council under the President of Russia appealed to the United Nations and the Council of Europe with a request to intervene in the situation with the deterioration in the supply of fresh water to the inhabitants of Crimea.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine declares that the water supply to Crimea from mainland Ukraine will be fully restored only after the complete de-occupation of the peninsula. This position is based on the norms of international law… Any statements about the alleged violation of the norms of international law by Ukraine in connection with the cessation of water supply are insignificant from the point of view of international law and, apparently, are aimed to “appoint a culprit” for the expenses incurred by the Russian Federation for the seventh year as a result of the illegal occupation of Crimea,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website on September 15.

The agency claims that there is not enough water in Crimea only for “the accelerated development of military facilities and enterprises of the military-industrial complex,” and Russia as an “occupying country” is fully responsible for providing water to the population of the peninsula.
