OREANDA-NEWS. The UN Security Council adopted a resolution fixing the results of the Berlin conference on Libya. The author of the document is the United Kingdom. It was supported by 14 countries. The Russian Federation abstained.

The document says that the Security Council confirms the need for a ceasefire as soon as possible without any preconditions. It supports the sovereignty of Libya. The Council recalls the obligation of the participants in the Berlin conference to refrain from interfering in the armed conflict or in the internal affairs of Libya. It also expresses concern over the growing involvement of mercenaries in Libya, recalling that those who support activities that threaten the peace, stability or security of Libya may be included in the sanctions list.

As a result of the conference held on January 19, it was decided to create a joint military committee with five representatives from each side of the conflict. The opposing parties agreed to continue negotiations; they can be held on February 18 in Geneva.
