OREANDA-NEWSThe UN deputy secretary confirmed at a meeting of the committee on relations with the host country the position of the Russian Federation on violation by the United States of their visa obligations. This was announced on Tuesday by reporters of the deputy representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Gennady Kuzmin after a committee meeting. From the UN, the Deputy Secretary General for Legal Affairs, Miguel de Serpa Suarez, attended the meeting. "The Under Secretary General has actually supported our position. It's that the United States has violated its visa obligations", he said.

The United States has not issued visas to 18 delegates from Russia since the start of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly. Including visas were not issued to 13 members of the Russian delegation who were to take part in the high-level week of the UN General Assembly. Then, a large part of the Russian delegation faced visa problems to participate in the First Committee of the UN General Assembly on Disarmament Issues.

In this regard, the first deputy representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky proposed moving the committee's work in 2020 to the UN headquarters in Vienna or Geneva.
