OREANDA-NEWS. The US Congress received notification that President Donald Trump has officially removed the state from membership in the World Health Organization (WHO).

This was announced by Senator from New Jersey, Robert Menendez, on his Twitter page. The politician noted that the decision was made “in the midst of a pandemic.” “To call Trump’s response to COVID chaotic & incoherent doesn’t do it justice. This won’t protect American lives or interests – it leaves Americans sick & America alone,” Menendez wrote.

According to CNN, citing official representative of the State Department, the USA notified about the decision the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres. It will enter into force on July 6, 2021.

Trump began to criticize WHO in connection with the outbreak of coronavirus infection in the beginning of April. The President said that the organization payed too much attention to China ignoring the United States. In addition, American leader accused WHO of late warning of the spread of COVID-19.
