OREANDA-NEWS. The US Senate approved a resolution to limit the powers of President Donald Trump to conduct military operations connected with Iran. 55 members of the upper chamber of the national parliament voted in favour of this document, 45 voted nay.

The resolution was introduced by Democrat Tim Kaine. Its text obliges the head of state to cease all hostile actions against Iran within 30 days.

Earlier, the US House of Representatives adopted a similar resolution. However, it does not have the force of law. A document approved by the Senate differs in structure and text. Trump himself should sign the resolution, therefore it is unlikely to come into force. The President has already attacked the resolution with criticism, saying that this is an attempt by the Democrats to prevent the Republicans, and “this is not the time to show weakness.”
