OREANDA-NEWS. US Special Representative for Syria James Jeffrey claimed that the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “would not survive a week without Russian assistance.”

These words were published on the website of the US State Department. According to the politician, Moscow should pursue a different policy that would meet the requirements of the United States and the world community, which mean implementing UN Security Council resolution 2254, organizing cooperation against terrorist groups, including the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, as well as supporting the withdrawal of Iranian forces from the region.

Jeffrey added that the US does not demand the overthrow of al-Assad, but “a change in that government’s behavior.” According to him, Moscow should help Damascus in it.
