OREANDA-NEWS. The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of Treasury extended the delay in imposing sanctions on GAZ Group, controlled by Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska, until July 22, 2020. Before this date, investors must get rid of the company’s assets and complete transactions with it. The previous sanction deadline should expire on March 31.

Deripaska’s companies came under US sanctions for “various types of malicious activities” of the Russian Federation in April 2018. In March 2019, the businessman filed a lawsuit against the US Treasury. The sanctions against the main assets of Deripaska, En + and Rusal, were lifted after he abandoned control over them.

In June 2019, Deripaska petitioned for the cancelation of restrictions on his assets. The US Treasury refused to satisfy his request. GAZ Group is Deripaska’s last asset, on which negotiations to lift sanctions are held.
