OREANDA-NEWS. R. Clarke Cooper, Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, said on November 2 that the USA is unhappy that Cyprus is not taking any action to stop Russian warships from entering its ports. This was reported on the website of the US Department of State.

“I did specifically note that Cyprus has not yet taken the steps necessary to deny port access to Russian naval vessels. These and other steps are certainly necessary, but they’re also part of the Eastern Mediterranean strategy as well as the Energy Partnership Act of 2019. We certainly want the Republic of Cyprus to pursue in this direction,” Cooper said.

On September 17, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova claimed that the United States should not interfere in relations between the Russian Federation and Cyprus. The diplomat stressed that Moscow never cooperates with one or another country against a third, and recommended Washington to do the same.
