OREANDA-NEWS. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he plans to discuss the return of the Donbass at the summit of the “Normandy Four” in Paris.

“I want to talk about the return and de-occupation of the Donbass with some more or less clear terms. We will talk about this, I will raise this issue,” the Ukrainian leader said. The politician also noted that the problem of resolving the situation in eastern Ukraine can be solved only through diplomatic means. He stated that this was a reason why authorities were expecting a meeting in the “Normandy format” and were seriously preparing for it. The President added that he would like the summit to bring “real results”. Zelensky said that in addition to the return of the Donbass, he plans to discuss the terms for the exchange of prisoners.

The “Normandy format” summit will be held in Paris on December 9. The previous meeting of the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany was carried out in 2016. The parties will discuss the implementation of the Minsk agreements, one of the items of which is the introduction of a special status for the Donbass.

The current law on the regime of local self-government in the Donbass will expire on December 31. According to it, Ukraine guarantees that it will not allow criminal prosecution of participants in hostilities in the territory of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.

RBC information agency’s interlocutor in the pro-presidential party “Servant of the People” said that Zelensky’s team does not yet understand what will replace this document. The deputies of the Verkhovna Rada will start preparing a bill after the summit in the “Normandy format”.
