OREANDA-NEWS. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov spoke about the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to return Crimea to Ukraine on the official website of the Games-2020.

Initially, the Republic of Crimea was depicted as part of Russia on the official website of the Olympic Games. On the official website on July 22 of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, a world map appeared, on which the border between Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula was drawn.

Such a map could be seen in the Cheer Zone tab, in the "Schedule and Results" section. There it was seen that a border was drawn between the mainland of Independence and the Crimea. This could not remain unnoticed in Ukraine, and the country's Foreign Ministry turned to the embassy in Japan with a request to investigate this incident.

After the appeal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the IOC apologized and returned the peninsula to Ukraine.

"This is a reason for our embassy, including our sports officials, to take appropriate action and ask the appropriate questions," Interfax quotes Peskov.

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place on Friday 23 July. The beginning is at 14:00 Moscow time. Russia will perform at the ceremony under number 77.

It is recalled that the Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 8.
