OREANDA-NEWSRussia is developing air defense systems based on new physical principles. This was announced on Wednesday by the head of the military air defense of the Armed forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Alexander Leonov.

"In the future, it is planned to equip the air defense forces with complexes based on new physical principles, the development of which is already underway", Leonov said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta. Weapons based on new physical principles are called weapons, which are based on the physical principles that were not previously used in the creation of weapons - laser, microwave radiation, electromagnetic radiation, and so on.

Leonov also said that tactical medium-range ballistic missiles, performing maneuvers in dense layers of the atmosphere, will appear in the near future in connection with the termination of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles.

"To solve these problems, the complexes will be equipped with universal combat missile modules with passive detection means, which will provide for the use of several types of homing anti-aircraft guided missiles operating on the principle of" shot-and-forget", the head of the military air defense added.
