Russia has Registered a Test to Detect the British Strain of SARS-CoV-2
OREANDA-NEWS. The Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor has developed the world's first test system for detecting a "British" strain of coronavirus, as reported on the agency's website.
After registration of the test system, it is argued that tests on clinical samples with confirmed mutations have proven the high accuracy of such tests.
The new technology, as noted in Rospotrebnadzor, allows you to create reagents for detecting any mutations of the coronavirus, as well as other infections that require massive testing.
In mid-December 2020, it became known that a new mutation of the coronavirus had appeared in the UK, which was named SARS-CoV-2. Later, the British authorities reported that it is spreading faster than the already familiar coronavirus infection and requires more careful compliance with quarantine measures from the population.
At the same time, scientists did not find evidence that the new strain is more deadly or more often causes a more severe course of the disease. Nevertheless, a number of countries, including Russia, suspended flights with the United Kingdom as a precautionary measure.
Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said that Russian vaccines would be effective against all existing forms of the infection, including the new COVID-19 strain.
