OREANDA-NEWS The new complex of protection against high-precision guided munitions for armored vehicles is developed by specialists of Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering (part of RosTec). The first complex will receive the latest self-propelled artillery "Lotus", said in the press service of Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering.

"Engineers of the artillery direction of "Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering" are developing a new complex of protection of armored vehicles from high-precision weapons, based on the principle of optoelectronic suppression of guidance systems for the purpose of attacking guided munitions," the press service said. They added that the new complex "will be installed on the 120-mm CAO "Lotus", which is currently preparing for preliminary tests".

The complex consists of equipment that records the shot itself and the sector from which it is made, as well as the system of setting opto-electronic interference with aerosol ammunition, which violates the control of the attacking missile.

As explained in the press-service, upon detection of an attack complex fires ammunition of the aerosol in the desired direction with the wind. Then, from the ammunition itself, a block of cassettes with an aerosol-forming filling flies out. "In flight, the cassettes are consistently triggered and form an aerosol cloud of noise in the visible, infrared and radio frequency wavelength ranges, which provides protection for the combat vehicle," explained Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering.

The company reported that preliminary tests of aerosol munitions had been carried out, which confirmed their high efficiency. They added that the munition system ensures the production of optic-electronic interference in an expanded, in comparison with analogues, the range of wavelengths.

To date, one of the most effective means of high-precision destruction of armored vehicles are anti-tank missile systems. Missiles of such systems have different control: their flight can be directly controlled by the operator of the complex on the radio channel, they can have an infrared homing head or fly to the target on the commands of the control system, while the target is illuminated by a laser beam. Breaking the radio command communication with the missile, the disappearance of the laser illumination of the target or the blinding of the missile in the infrared range, according to the type of control, will lead to a miss.
