OREANDA-NEWS. The Bryansk Regional Court sentenced Russian citizen Yury Yeshchenko to 13 years in prison for trying to transfer documents to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA, USA) on the latest weapon systems of the Russian Navy. This was reported by the Public Relations Center of the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB).

The court found Yeshchenko guilty of committing high treason. During the trial, he pleaded guilty and repented of what he had done. The verdict was announced on November 17.

The FSB reported that Yeshchenko worked in an organization servicing the electronic systems of ships of the Northern Fleet. In the period from 2015 to 2017, he purposefully copied secret documentation on the weapons systems used in the Navy, and at the beginning of 2019 established contact with the CIA. He was detained in the Bryansk Region while trying to transfer information constituting a state secret to the American special service in July of the last year.
