OREANDA-NEWS. At the current stage, it would be correct to bring Russian military observers into the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said. “Now, not even peacekeepers, but military observers would be enough. We believe that it would be completely correct if there were our military observers, but the parties should have the last word,” the politician said.

Lavrov called the political settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh possible. According to him, now the co-chairing countries of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe are working out proposals on the gradual liberation of the regions around the conflict zone, observing security guarantees and ensuring communication between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh before the final status of the latter is determined.

Initially, at the first stage, it was supposed to liberate five regions around Nagorno-Karabakh, unblock all communications, economic ties and transport contacts, and deploy peacekeepers that would guarantee the non-resumption of hostilities. At the second stage, the liberation of two more regions and the determination of the final status of the disputed territory were suggested.
