OREANDA-NEWS. When shaping its policy towards Russia, Europe is guided not by reason, but by emotions, Senator Alexei Pushkov wrote on the Telegram channel.

The senator said that "the European Parliament reflects not a strategy, but the political emotions of the ruling elite of the European Union, just as PACE does. Emotions are such that Russia wants to be dealt with, and for a long time."

According to the senator, the disagreements between Russia and the EU were exposed back in 2012 over the Syrian issue, and since then the contradictions have only grown. At the same time, the European Union should take into account in its political strategy "the fact of the existence of Russia as a geopolitical reality," the parliamentarian stressed.

Pushkov added that "political emotions dictate one thing to the majority in the Assembly, but the need to have Russia in its composition forces us to do something else and make serious corrections in behavior. And refusal to dialogue with Russia would only lead to a further decrease in the role of the EU in world politics."
