OREANDA-NEWS. On September 8, Russian fighter jet Su-27 escorted US and Swedish reconnaissance aircrafts over the Baltic Sea. This was announced by the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Federation.

The military noted that the airplane was raised to identify air targets and prevent violation of the state border. “The crew of the Russian fighter identified the air targets as the US Air Force’s strategic reconnaissance aircraft RC-135 and the Swedish Air Force’s reconnaissance aircraft Gulfstream,” the Center informed. After the foreign planes turned away from the Russian border, the Su-27 returned to the home airfield. “The entire flight of the Russian Su-27 fighter was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace,” the Russian military stressed.

Earlier on the same day, a Russian fighter MiG-29 intercepted an aircraft P-3C Orion of the Norwegian Air Force over the Barents Sea. There was no violation of the state border.
