OREANDA-NEWS. The authorities of Sweden are pondering over the introduction of quarantine measures in Stockholm amid the worsening situation with the spread of coronavirus infection.

According to the country’s chief epidemiologist, Anders Tegnell, in the last few weeks there has been an increase in the incidence in all age groups in the Swedish capital. The authorities are discussing the need for quarantine to reduce the spread of the virus, he added. Tegnell did not disclose details of possible restrictions.

The head of the Stockholm department of health, Bjorn Eriksson, said that after the situation improved in the spring, the incidence of COVID-19 began to rise again. He urged city residents to maintain social distance.

The Swedish authorities have been repeatedly criticized for their refusal to impose restrictions related to the coronavirus spread. During the pandemic, kindergartens, schools and service enterprises continued to work in the country. The government just called on citizens to take precautions.

At present, over 88 thousand cases of COVID-19 have been registered in Sweden. More than 5.8 thousand people died.
