OREANDA-NEWS. The Federal Court of Switzerland ordered Moscow to pay 80 million Swiss francs (more than 80 million US dollars) in compensation for damage to 12 Ukrainian companies as a result of the accession of Crimea to Russia. Thus, the judges dismissed two appeals of the Russian party.

“The court considered the complaint that changing borders requires an additional agreement between the parties to be unreasonable,” the judgment says. The Federal Court also did not agree with the opinion of Russian lawyers that the Geneva arbitration has no competence to consider the case. In one of the appeals, Moscow called inapplicable the arguments of Ukrainian companies that they were subject to the 1998 agreement on the promotion and mutual protection of investments.
