OREANDA-NEWS. The Syrian government army regained control of the strategically important city of Maarrat al-Nuuman in the Idlib Governorate. This was reported on January 28 by the state agency Sana.

According to media, a large outpost of militants from the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group was located in this city. In addition, the importance of this point is explained by the fact that the city stands at the road interchange of the highway Hama – Aleppo.

According to the Federal News Agency, a day before the terrorists began to leave the city. “The army units began to consolidate their positions in Maarat al-Numan. At the same time, the Syrian army engineering troops started mine clearing,” an interlocutor of the news agency RIA Novosti reported.

On January 27, the Syrian Armed Forces also took control of the settlements Maar Shurin, Babbila and others.
