OREANDA-NEWS. On November 20, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena Zerkal said that Kiev intends to seek compensation from Russia if the International Court of Justice makes decision against the Russian side in the case of violation of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

According to the politician, when it happens, Kiev should “bash out” in getting money from Russia. “I would be very pleased if I were allowed to bash out!” – Zerkal said.

She also noted that a court decision could be made in 2022, after it Ukraine intends to raise the question of “compensation for damage in connection with Russia’s financing of terrorism,” and because of “racial discrimination in the Crimea.”

At the same day, the head of the working group on international legal issues at the Permanent Mission for the Crimea to the President of the Russia, Alexander Molokhov, said that Ukraine’s lawsuit was fabricated.

The trial was initiated by Kiev authorities in January 2017. Russia intended to prove the lack of jurisdiction of the court for several reasons. On November 8, 2019, the UN International Court of Justice rejected all preliminary objections of the Russians and acquired its jurisdiction. According to the report made on November 19, the Russian Federation must provide an answer to the lawsuit of Ukraine by December 8, 2020.

Moscow denies a fact of a dispute over the conventions and suspects Ukraine of using UN mechanisms to achieve political goals. Russian authorities consider that Kiev did not try to resolve disagreements through negotiations or arbitration, as it is required before applying to the International Court of Justice.
