OREANDA-NEWS. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), called on the world community to pay attention to the vaccine crisis. According to him, it is impossible to defeat coronavirus infection without solving this problem. This is reported by Russian media TASS.

«We will not be able to end this pandemic if we do not resolve the vaccine crisis», Tedros said.

He recalled that there are almost 8 billion doses of the vaccine in the world. At the same time, more than 80% of the global volume of vaccines went to the G20 countries, and low-income countries, most of which are in Africa, received only 0.6% of doses. Ghebreyesus also said that 103 countries still have not reached the WHO goal of providing 40% coverage of the population of all countries with coronavirus vaccinations by the end of this year.

Earlier, WHO did not rule out serious consequences in the event of a major outbreak of coronavirus caused by a new omicron-strain. The probability of it's potential further spread at the global level is high.
