OREANDA-NEWS. Signal Iduna Park, the home stadium of football club Borussia Dortmund, will be re-equipped into an open-air hospital, where patients with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 will be treated.

Signal Iduna Park is the largest football stadium in Germany, it seats 81,359 people. It is known that hospital beds will be placed on the northern stand of the arena. Re-equipment will begin on April 4.

“Our stadium is the pride of the city, one of the most emblematic buildings in the region. This is an ideal place to help infected people,” Borussia CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said.

At present, all German football championships, as well as other national competitions in Europe, are suspended due to an epidemic of coronavirus infection. A pause in the Bundesliga will last until at least April 30.
