OREANDA-NEWS. Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from the Crimean region Mikhail Sheremet said that he considered it expedient to consider the issue of returning the death penalty in the country.

Earlier, the chairman of the Constitutional Court (CC) of Russia, Valery Zorkin, did not rule out that in the future Russia could return to the use of the death penalty as a capital punishment, as he wrote about in his book Constitutional Justice: Procedure and Meaning. It is published on the official website of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation.

“We were late with this question. Lifting the moratorium on the death penalty is a necessary and justified measure. This decision had to be made long ago. Unfortunately, many criminals, unfortunately, cannot be corrected by any existing punishments. The death penalty would become a kind of vaccine against pedophiles and maniacs who cause enormous damage to the safety and morality of our society, "Sheremet told RIA Novosti.

According to him, today the issue of lifting the moratorium on the death penalty lies in the discussion plane.

"We do not need to follow Western stereotypes and imposed dogmas of behavior. I consider it expedient to bring the issue of returning the death penalty to public discussion," the deputy said.
