OREANDA-NEWS. The American side did not support the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold a conversation with US President Joe Biden in the format of a videoconference in an open mode to discuss bilateral problems. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

A statement on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry says: "We state with regret that the American side did not support the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold a conversation with US President George Biden on March 19 or 22 in the format of a video conference in an open mode, to discuss the accumulated bilateral problems, as well as topics of strategic stability."

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that another opportunity has been missed to find a way out of the impasse in Russian-American relations, which was caused by Washington's fault, and the responsibility for this rests entirely with the United States.

The problem of further development of relations between the leaders of Russia and the United States escalated in the middle of last week, when Biden, when asked by the media whether he considered his Russian counterpart a "killer," answered in the affirmative. He also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin would "answer" for alleged interference in the American elections.

Putin on Thursday reacted to the words of his American colleague: he wished Biden health and noted that evaluating other people is like looking in a mirror.

In addition, Putin invited his American colleague to continue the discussion, but on condition that it will be held live. He urged not to postpone the conversation "on the back burner" and to hold it on Friday, Monday, or "at any time convenient for the American side."
