OREANDA-NEWS. A representative of the Nigerian Navy, Suleman Dahun reported that three sailors (two Russians and one Indian), who were previously abducted by pirates in Nigeria, were freed.

Earlier, the local newspaper Premium Times, citing a representative of the Navy of Nigeria, reported that on January 2, pirates attacked the ship Ambika and captured three crew members. After that four members of the country’s Navy rescue team were killed in a shootout.

Three sailors were liberated as a result of a special operation by a local Navy team in the state of Ondo in southwestern Nigeria. The fleet spokesman told France-Presse that one of the abductors was detained.

Sources in the Nigerian security service reported about extermination of several pirates during the operation. The search for the remaining free criminals continues.
