OREANDA-NEWS. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, proposed the creation of a NATO working group to assess whether the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system can be integrated into the defense system of the military bloc.

“The concern is that the F-35 fighters and the S-400 systems are incompatible… Let’s create a working group, and the NATO would lead it. Let the experts study this issue and make an assessment,” Cavusoglu said.

Deliveries of the S-400, which caused a crisis in relations between Turkey and the United States, began in mid-July 2019. Washington demanded that Ankara annul the deal and in exchange acquire the American systems Patriot, threatening to delay or even cancel the sale of the F-35 fighters to Turkey, as well as impose sanctions. Turkish authorities refused to make concessions in this matter.
