OREANDA-NEWS. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for a ceasefire in all conflicts of the world amid the spread of coronavirus.

“Our world faces a common enemy: COVID-19. The virus does not care about race or nationality, faction or faith. It attacks all, relentlessly. Meanwhile, armed conflict rages on around the world.  […] The fury of the virus illustrates the folly of war. That is why today, I am calling for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world,” he said.

Gutteres added that his special envoys will work with parties to the conflicts to try to provide steps to suspend hostilities and create conditions for a more effective fight against the disease.

The UN Secretary-General also mentioned that in the current situation, the most vulnerable: women and children, people with disabilities and refugees, pay the highest price.
