OREANDA-NEWS. The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is preparing a tender for the development of an artificial intelligence system that controls a combat aircraft or unmanned aerial vehicle and is capable to fight in the air. The tender is called Air Combat Evolution.

Under the auspices of the DARPA, the first stage of testing of the neural network algorithms in virtual air combat took place. The programs of eight companies: Aurora Flight Sciences, EpiSCI, Heron Systems, Lockheed Martin, Perspecta Labs, physicsAI, SoarTech, as well as the Georgia Tech Research Institute, are involved in the project.

The ultimate goal of the program is to create an artificial intelligence system for airplanes and combat drones, including unmanned aerial vehicles for protecting manned fighters.
