OREANDA-NEWS. In Washington, a 51-year-old man approached an officer of the US Secret Service (guarding the president and senior officials) stationed outside the White House and performed actions similar to preparing to shoot. This is reported in a statement by the Secret Service.

According to it, the incident occurred on August 10 at about 17:53 local time (22:53 UTC). The man approached an officer at the corner of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue and said that he had a weapon. Then he “ran aggressively towards the officer,” made a movement to pull something out of his clothing, and “crouched into a shooter’s stance if about to fire a weapon.” The officer shot an unknown person in the torso, after which the Secret Service employees provided first aid and called the emergency.

The statement notes that both the officer and the offender were hospitalized. “No Secret Service protectees were ever in danger,” it adds.
