OREANDA-NEWS. The US Space Command has evidence that Russia is testing space-based anti-satellite weapons. This is stated on its Twitter page. According to the American military, the test took place on July 15, and the “object” was launched next to another Russian satellite.

Concern over the launch of a “projective with the characteristics of a weapon” by Russia was also declared by the head of the British space programme, Air Vice-Marshal Harvey Smith. “Actions of this kind threaten the peaceful use of space and risk causing debris that could pose a threat to satellites and the space systems on which the world depends,” the officer wrote on Twitter. Smith urged the Russian Federation to work with the United Kingdom and other partners to ensure responsible behaviour in the outer space.
