OREANDA-NEWS. The US authorities have arrested a former officer of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on charges of spying for China.

This was reported by the press service of the US Department of Justice. According to the message, 67-year-old Alexander Yuk Ching Ma was detained on August 14, 2020. After being dismissed in 1989 from the CIA, where he worked for 7 years, Yuk Ching Ma lived and worked in Shanghai, and in 2001 he returned to the United States. He lived in Hawaii, where he got a job as a translator for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to the Department of Justice, before leaving Shanghai, Yuk Ching Ma with his relative, also a former employee of the American special service, gave the Chinese authorities classified information about the employees, methods of work and operations of the CIA. Meetings with representatives of the Chinese special services took place in Hong Kong over several days in March of 2001.
