OREANDA-NEWS. 100 thousand people have recovered from a new coronavirus infection throughout the world. This was announced at a press conference by the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
He confirmed that at present, more than half a million cases of the disease have already been registered, 20 thousand people died.
Ghebreyesus recalled that the day before he spoke to the leaders of the Group of Twenty. The main point of his speech was that countries need to work together to counter the pandemic. “Unite to confront the pandemic together. We are one humanity, with one, common enemy. No country can fight alone; we can only fight together,” he said.
According to the head of WHO, now the main problem in combating the pandemic is a lack of personal protective equipment. The organization has already sent 2 million individual items of protective gear to the countries in greatest need. “But much more is needed,” he added.
Disease vaccine development will take at least 12–18 months, Ghebreyesus said. 45 countries take part in its creation. In Norway and Spain, various drugs are tested on volunteers who were infected with the virus.
