OREANDA-NEWS. A group of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) completed work in China. The results of these activities will serve as the basis for further research aimed at clarifying the origin of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said at a briefing in Geneva on August 3.

According to him, the result of this mission was the development of a document by specialists from WHO and China on research, as well as on the programme of activities of an international group led by WHO. This group will include experts from China and other countries.

Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that epidemiological studies will begin in the city of Wuhan. Their goal will be to identify a potential source of infection during early appearance of coronavirus cases. The head of the WHO added that the evidence and hypotheses that will be generated during this work will lay the foundation for further, long-term research.
