OREANDA-NEWS. On July 27 at a briefing in Geneva  Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the coronavirus pandemic is intensifying.

According to him, the organization has received reports of almost 16 million cases of the disease and more than 640 thousand deaths. Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that the number of cases has almost doubled in the past 6 weeks. The day before, the WHO reported that the daily increase in patients with COVID-19 exceeded 200 thousand.

A few weeks ago, Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the coronavirus infection will continue to spread if the basic rules for countering the pandemic are not followed. In addition, he stressed that many states went in the wrong direction in the fight against the disease, but did not mention this or that countries.

According to the data of Worldometer, as of July 27, there are 16.4 million cases of COVID-19 in the world. 652.8 thousand people died. More than 10 million patients recovered.
