OREANDA-NEWS. The number of people infected with coronavirus in the world over the past week rose by a record 2.2 million. This follows from the weekly bulletin of the World Health Organization (WHO), published on October 13. “Since the last Weekly Epidemiological Update issued on 5 October, over 2.2 million new cases and 39,000 deaths of COVID-19 have been reported across all six WHO regions. This is the highest number of reported cases so far in a single week,” the text reads.

The most severe epidemic situation is observed in the Americas. Over the past week, more than 804 thousand infected and about 20 thousand deaths have been registered there.

Europe has also recorded a large increase in the incidence over the past seven days: the number of infected people grew by more than 694 thousand, more than 6.1 thousand people died.

According to the WHO, by October 13, in total, 37,423,660 cases of COVID-19 were detected in the world, the number of deaths increased to 1,074,817.
