OREANDA-NEWS. The coronavirus mutation detected in the United Kingdom is insignificant and does not affect the effectiveness of diagnostic tools, vaccines and other drugs. This was stated on December 25 in an interview with TASS by the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Russian Federation, Melita Vujnovic.

“At the moment, the SARS-CoV-2 virus has mutated very little, and its changes have not yet affected the effectiveness of the available diagnostics, drugs and vaccines under development," she said. WHO recommends continuing to implement all basic health and social measures, including testing and contact tracing followed by isolation, as well as personal protective measures such as hand hygiene, physical distancing and wearing masks, Vujnovic added.

She noted that joint actions and the absence of panic will help control the situation with the detection of a new strains of coronavirus in Great Britain and other countries.
