OREANDA-NEWS. The North Atlantic Alliance admits that Russia "does not plan an invasion" of Ukraine and it has no such intentions. This is reported by the portal Euractiv, citing a source in NATO.

According to the publication, "According to a source in the Alliance, the Russian Federation is not planning an invasion." The interlocutor also noted that the attack requires military capabilities “different from those that are allegedly “deployed now” near the borders of Ukraine.”

It is argued that "there are options to reduce tension tomorrow" on this situation between Moscow and Kiev. The possibility of an attack was assessed by a senior NATO source representing an EU member state in Brussels.

“If Russia made the mistake of attacking a NATO member state, then we would have a third world war,” admitted a source in the Alliance.

Earlier it was reported that the heads of the defense ministries of NATO countries will hold a meeting in Brussels on February 16 and 17.

Also, the German Foreign Ministry commented on the likelihood of Ukraine joining NATO. German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that at this stage, NATO does not plan to accept the countries of Eastern Europe, including Ukraine, into its ranks, RIA Novosti reports.

“At present, no expansion of NATO to the East is foreseen at all. Therefore, in Moscow, I had a long discussion with the Russian Foreign Minister about what we are arguing about, ”said Burbock.

She noted that Russia should be thoroughly aware that Ukraine, despite the principle of "open doors" of NATO, is not accepted into the military alliance. Instead, according to Burbock, it is necessary to focus on the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
